January 29, 2025
The University of West Alabama (UWA), in collaboration with Auburn University’s Rural Health Initiative and OnMed, has introduced a groundbreaking hybrid care solution in Gainesville, Alabama. The newly installed OnMed CareStation brings advanced, on-demand healthcare to Sumter County, offering real-time virtual consultations, diagnostic tools, and prescription services—bridging critical gaps in rural healthcare access.
This initiative, part of UWA’s Connecting Minority Communities grant pilot program, also provides invaluable hands-on experience for nursing students while empowering the local community with more accessible and affordable care.
The project is already making an impact, with residents like 84-year-old Bertha Pruitt praising the convenience of this innovative healthcare model, signaling a transformative shift for medical services in Alabama’s Black Belt region.
